Updates on the Northeast Ocean Data Portal

There are several new updates to the Northeast Ocean Data Portal.

  • Vessel traffic data and maps derived from the Automatic Identification System (AIS) for 2015 and 2016 are now available, including the ability to identify the number of transits through an area, map traffic by vessel type including fishing vessels and pleasure craft, and functionality to visualize monthly traffic patterns. 2017 data will be released shortly.  These data were developed in partnership with the U.S. Coast Guard, the Marine Cadastre, and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Council on the Ocean.
  • A new suite of marine life data and maps are now available incorporating recent wildlife observations and updated modeling techniques. These data were developed in collaboration with the Duke Marine Geospatial Ecology Lab with support from the U.S Navy, and the NOAA National Centers for Coastal and Ocean Science (NCCOS) with support from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), respectively.  Please join us on September 28, 2018 at 11 a.m.for a demonstration of these data. Participants can find more information and register for the webinar here.
  • The Environmental Business Council of New England (EBC) will be hosting a panel discussion and training for the Northeast Ocean Data Portal on September 26, 2018 from 7:30a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Boston. Additional details can be found onthe EBC website.
