June 26, 2014 RPB Meeting

A Northeast Regional Planning Body (NE RPB) Natural Resources Public Workshop and fourth NE RPB meeting will take place on June 25-26, 2014 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The workshop and meeting will both take place at The Charles Hotel located at 1 Bennett Street in Cambridge.

On June 26th, please join the Northeast Regional Planning Body for its fourth meeting. During this meeting, the RPB and staff will provide an update on ongoing planning activities, including efforts to identify options for interagency coordination and the use of regional data under the ocean planning goal “Effective Decision Making.” At this meeting, the RPB will consider options for technical and stakeholder input into ocean planning decisions as outlined in the Advisory Functions Options document (PDF) (4pp, 220k). If you wish to provide comments on this draft prior to the RPB meeting, please do so through the online comment form or by emailing comments directly to Katie Lund. Public participants will be given opportunities to comment on RPB proceedings and decisions.

Registration will begin at 8:00 am; the meeting will begin at 8:30 am and will adjourn at 5:00 pm.

Ocean Planning Timeline

  • November 2012 Inaugural Northeast RPB Meeting: Develop common understanding about the RPB; provide context and lay foundation of regional ocean planning; engage stakeholders and the public, discuss initial focus.
    April 2013 Northeast RPB Meeting: Northeast RPB Meeting: Identify draft goals for regional ocean planning and mechanisms for receiving public input about those draft goals; provide opportunities for public input about topics under consideration.
    May/June 2013 Public Comment Meetings: Ten public meetings throughout New England to discuss draft regional ocean planning goals.
  • January Northeast RPB Meeting: approve goals and objectives; move forward on related tasks.
    May/June Public Engagement: Natural Resources Workshops and focused engagement to discuss progress toward goals of effective Decision-Making and Healthy Ocean and Coastal Ecosystems.
    June Northeast RPB Meeting: Review progress toward all goals.
    Fall Public meetings/workshops and Northeast RPB meeting: Feedback on progress toward each goal.
  • Spring Workshops/public meetings: Review draft baseline assessment and progress on the use of marine life and ocean use data, regulatory coordination, and future scenario development.
    May/June Northeast RPB Meeting: Review draft products for each goal; discuss options for the future of the RPB and ocean planning products.
    Fall/Winter Northeast RPB meeting and public meetings: Review revised products for each goal; discuss future work of the RPB.
  • Winter Northeast RPB meeting: Approve final products for each goal--collectively, the regional ocean plan--and determine the RPB's future.
